Happy Valentine’s Day! February 14th is a day when we think about love and our connections to others. If those thoughts don’t lead directly to our feelings about children and our families, I don’t know what would.
Three months ago upon the birth of my nephew, my father told my brother (the new daddy), “all he needs is food, shelter, and lots of LOVE!” Parents read blogs and books, ask questions, feel pride in their child’s accomplishments, and sadness when their child feels hurt, all because of LOVE. On diffcult days, sick days and temper tantrum days, LOVE for our children pulls us through. On birthdays and graduations, lazy rainy days watching movies in bed and long, fun-filled days at the beach, LOVE for our children fills our hearts till we think they might burst.
In the end my father is right. Showing children love, teaching them to love and be loved, is a parents greatest task and biggest accomplishment. Today on Valentine’s Day, and every day, show your children you LOVE them. That is a lesson they’ll remember forever.
